In the 1901 census Emma Riches, aged 53, a widow, is living at this address, head of household, her occupation is "Rescue Worker". The house has two entries listed on the schedule - and must have been split in to two residences. The other residents are a married couple and their daughter.

A 19 year old unmarried girl - Annie Stone - from Coombe Hill, Hemyock, Devon gives birth to a daughter at 31 Sturry Street, Poplar. Hemyock is just a few miles from Huntsham - an amazing coincidence that 2 births take place at Sturry Street with close connections to this remote part of Devon.
